As Director, Andreas Beckmann is responsible for planning, initiating and leading B&I work for the WWF Network in Southeastern Europe, including Romania, as well as developing and tracking innovative business partnerships for sustainable conservation and development. He is closely involved in overseeing WWF's relationships with global business partners in Southeastern and Eastern Europe, including e.g. Lafarge, The Coca Cola Company, IKEA and Tetra Pak. In addition to engagement with Business and Industry, Andreas also oversees WWF's work in the region related to Climate Change and Energy. Previous to his present position, Andreas served as WWF's European coordinator for EU enlargement and related EU policy and funding instruments from 2001-2005. Before coming to work for WWF in 2001, Andreas spent 10 years living and working in Prague, the last five years leading communications and development as well as regional coordination for the Environmental Partnership, a consortium of foundations in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria.
Andreas has studied History, Politics and International Relations and conservation at Stanford University (MA, cand PhD), Swarthmore College (BA with honors), the Universitaet zu Koeln in Germany (Fulbright Scholarship), and at the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys, and the WWF Conservation College.
