After graduating in Environmental Science in 1977, Andrew worked in product and packaging design management and development for several major manufacturing and retailing organisations including the Storehouse Group.
He joined The Boots UK Ltd. in 1994. As a member of the Quality & CSR Support team Andrew’s role is to advise product marketing and development groups on sustainable development issues. His work includes advising the development of the company Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy and the introduction of innovative holistic sustainable product design & development strategies covering the wide portfolio of Boots products. Andrew represents the company on several trade association committees and was Boots representative in the development of the Sigma guidelines for integrating sustainable development into business. This has now continued with work on the EU Roundtable on Sustainable Development standards and representation on the BSi committee responsible for BS8900 Guidance for Managing Sustainable Development. Developing a methodology for identifying the impact of products across the range of sustainability indicators is a major focus of his current work. Recent achievements include pioneering studies on product carbon footprinting with the Carbon Trust, involvement with the Green Alliance “Designing Out Waste” project, and a Major Commendation in the 2007 Business Commitment to the Environment Awards He is also responsible for developing external partnerships in the area of sustainable development with trade associations, academic institutions and organisations such as Forum for the Future. |
