Mr. Florin Vasiliu is at present Vice-president of Environmental Experts Association and Managing Director of Aster Consulting ltd. He has a wide experience of 15 years of designing and managing environmental projects, access to information, public participation in environmental decision-making, public awareness, multilateral conventions, as well as training and capacity building.
In 1992 he founded ECOSENS Bucharest, an environmental NGO dedicated to sustainable development of Romania. For many years ECOSENS was one of the leading Romanian environmental NGOs dedicated to local Agenda 21, and environmental advocacy. He was president of ECOSENS (1995-1998), and president of Strawberry Net Foundation (1996-2000), an NGO dedicated to promoting electronic communication, and access to environmental information. Mr. Vasiliu has worked as consultant, and trained for over seven years with CENTRAS – The assistance center for NGOs (1998-2004), thus contributing to the overall development of the civil society in Romania. He is also founder of one of the first Romanian think-tank organizations, the Institute for Public Policies. He is a member of the Romanian Group for Public Participation, and the Romanian Group for Sustainable Transport. In 1997 he joined Romanian Association of Environmental Journalists and in 2004 the Environmental Experts Association. His professional careers started with ECOSENS, and provide him with a broad experience regarding Romanian environmental issues, and public policies. Mr. Vasiliu played a significant role in the implementation of the resolutions of the National NGO forum, as a former GIR member – an independent NGO legislative consultative group (1998-2002). He was contributing to the elaboration of the first Romanian Strategy on Sustainable Development (1998-2000) by the side of NCSD, and to the introduction of Pollutant Release and Transfer Register. As a legal adviser at CENTRAS, he contributed to the elaboration of various draft laws and regulations: the Law of Associations and Foundation, the Law 1%, the Sponsorship Law. Mr.Vasiliu holds a BA in Law and Juridical sciences, a MA in Public Administration – University.of Bucharest, Faculty of Sociology and Social Assistance, and has attained a one year course in Macroeconomics. Mr Vasiliu has also written and published on subjects related to various environmental issues, e.g. EIA, SEA, transportation, waste, renewable energy, POP, and sustainable development. |
